First group of Drug Project Managers Graduate

managers graduationEleven Drug Project Managers who completed the NCI certificate in Managing Organisations in the Community & Voluntary Sector (FETAC level 6 module) graduated in October 2007.

This was the first course specifically designed to meet the training and support needs of mangers of community based drug projects.

 

The course delivered four units focusing on providing practical support for the participant group. Citywide received funding for the course development and delivery from the emerging needs fund.

Citywide would like to thank the NCI for their co-operation in developing this course and would also extend our congratulations to all the course graduates.

The 07/08 Managers course

The course runs on Wednesday afternoons over two semesters, September - December 2007, and January - April 2008. Participants this year are from projects in six local Drug Taskforce areas and three Regional Drug Taskforce areas.

Course Core Content: Managing in the Community & Voluntary Sector

Processes
Drawing on organisational theory and practice, this unit identifies sociological, psychological and managerial perspectives on organisations in order to understand organisational processes and behaviour.
Focus:

  • Organisation Structures & Cultures
  • Theories of Motivation and Organisational Behaviours
  • Leading Organisations

Practice
This module introduces the functions of management, enabling students to appreciate and apply this knowledge in practice
Focus:

  • Key Functional Areas of Management
  • Financial Management
  • Management Committees and Corporate Governance

People
This module examines the core components of HRM and the effective management of people within organisations.
Focus:

  • HR Practices in C&V Sector
  • Employment Law
  • Health & Safety
  • Leadership & Change

Planning
Building on an understanding of strategic management, this module develops analytical and decision-making skills to formulate, explain, implement and evaluate organisational development and planning strategies.
Focus:

  • The Planning Process
  • Mission and Objectives
  • Environmental Analysis
  • The Strategic Plan
  • The Learning Organisation
