Campaign to highlight drugs issues in the 2007 General Election
19 Dec 2006
At the last community representatives meeting on October 6th, it was agreed to develop a campaign to highlight the drugs issue in the general election in 2007. A number of steps were laid out:
A campaign document will be drawn up by Citywide, to include a short summary of the current situation in our communities and a statement of the key issues/demands as outlined at previous community reps meetings. This document will be completed shortly.
The campaign document will be launched at a press conference, a date at the end of January is being suggested to coincide with reopening of Dail.
Campaign document will be circulated widely to politicians and media and meetings will be sought with party spokespersons to discuss issues and look for support.
A leaflet for local use will be drawn up, based on the campaign document. The format of the leaflet will be based on questions to ask candidates in the general election.
Citywide will co-ordinate on a particular day closer to the election date for all community reps and local groups to contact politicians on the same day in relation to the drugs issue.
A seminar for community representatives will take place in April 2007 to highlight the drugs crisis as an election issue.
