South Western Regional Drug Task Force bursary for international conference in Barcelona

Harm Reduction 2008: IHRA's 19th International Conference
from the 11th to the 15th May 2008 in Barcelona.

South Western Regional Drug Task Force are offering a bursary to cover the Conference fee for the above Conference. Applications are restricted to non Local Drug Task Force areas within the Kildare, West Wicklow, and South West Dublin catchment area of the South Western RDTF.

Please note places are limited.

The Bursary Covers the following
Attendance at all of the sessions of the conference, a pack containing the relevant conference documents and materials, lunch on Monday 12th May, Tuesday 13th May and Wednesday 14th May 2008, refreshments from Monday 12th May to Thursday 15th May 2008, admission to the conference welcome reception (Sunday 11th May 2008) admission to the conference party (Wednesday 14th May 2008).

Please note that the bursary fee does not include travel to or around Barcelona, or any accommodation costs. These must be organised and paid directly by the delegate themselves or the applicants employer

Letter should include delegates details of living or working in the named region, confirmation of travel and subsistence costs sourced elsewhere, how the applicant will transfer any learning back to the region, successful applicants will be expected to give a presentation to the Task Force within 4 weeks of the conference end or the nearest scheduled task force meeting.

Information on the Conference
Each year, the conference takes place in a different part of the world and covers the latest topics and debates from the field. As has been the case in the previous 18 events, the 2008 conference will include high profile opening and closing ceremonies, plenary sessions, major sessions, symposia, workshops, training events, a film festival, poster exhibitions, exhibition areas, satellite meetings, social and networking events.

For the 2008 conference, there will be a focus on Catalonia and Spain, but also on the harm reduction movement across the 'Latin' countries (including Spain, France, Portugal, Italy and the countries in Latin America).

The conference covers a broad range of topics and issues, including:
- Harm reduction
- Illicit drug use - prevention, treatment and care
- lcohol use - responsible use, treatment and care
- Tobacco use - cessation, prevention, and responsible use
- HIV/AIDS - testing, support, care, treatment and prevention
- Hepatitis and other blood-borne viruses
- Criminal justice interventions
- Social care
- Public Health
