The Network

Citywide facilitates LDTF Taskforce Community Representatives Network by bringing people together to support each other, exchange information and to identify key policy issues and develop responses. The network meets a number of times each year to discuss issues specific to the role of community reps.

Who are the Representatives?

When LDTF were set-up six community representatives were nominated to each taskforce following wide consultation among community groups. The criteria used for nominating reps included:

• Having an appropriate and adequate geographical spread of representation for the area;
• Giving priority to groups with a strong track record in community development;
• Nominating individuals who have the relevant knowledge and experience of the drugs issue necessary to play a full and productive role on the Taskforce; and
• Nominating reps that have the active support of the communities they represent.

These criteria continue to apply when replacing community reps for reasons such as at the end of their term, resignations etc.

What are Taskforces about?

The Local Drugs Taskforce was set up in 1997 to develop a more effective response to the drug crisis that was devastating many communities. Taskforces comprise a partnership between the statutory, voluntary and community sectors. Taskforces work to develop and implement a drugs strategy for their areas which co-ordinates all relevant programmes and addresses gaps in services.
